Schools to reopen in Karnataka: Education Minister Suresh Kumar hints at reopening schools after October

BENGALURU: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday reviewed the progress of 96 award-winning projects of the Centre, which are being implemented through 24 departments of the state. After the meeting, Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar informed the media representatives. The central government has given a grant of ₹ 18,001 crore in 2020-21 and ₹ 17,036 crore in 2021-22. Suresh Kumar informed that the total grant amount along with other sources of grant was Rs 38,078 crore.

The Minister said that there has been an estimated increase in Employment Guarantee Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, National Rural Drinking Water Programme, Jal Jeevan Mission, mid-day meal, comprehensive education, National Health Campaign, grants in State Disaster Fund and supplementary nutrition programmes.

The target of the village road project is to build a total of 5611 km of roads. The water project aims to supply water to 25 lakh households this year. A total of ₹646 crore has been released to the State Disaster Management Fund. Pradhan Mantri Awas said the project aims to build 1.20 lakh houses in slums.

The Chief Minister has directed that evaluation of programs worth more than Rs 100 crore should be made mandatory. The Karnataka Evaluation Authority has been given the responsibility.

The SSLC exam was conducted yesterday (July 19) in the state. 99.6 percent of the students took the exam. No untoward incident took place anywhere. It is believed that the language test will be conducted smoothly. Nodal officers will stay in the districts assigned to them. As I see, SSLC exam was a test of the society.

Kovid has been confirmed among 58 students who wrote the test. Those children have given written test at other CCC centers. The minister said that both the persons were present at the examination centres.
